WELCOME TO THE RISING THREES AT PIKEMERE

Welcome to the Rising Three’s Class (Sunflowers). We are part of the Early Years Foundation Stage at Pikemere School, together with the Foundation Stage 1 Class (Caterpillars) and the Reception Class (Butterflies).

MEET THE TEAM

The Sunflower team are:

Miss Rushton, Mrs Johnson, Mrs Ling and Mrs Wilkinson

All of the adults in the EYFS unit also support us in our play and in accessing the EYFS curriculum.

EARLY YEARS FRAMEWORK/CURRICULUM

Our curriculum and practice is led by the Statutory Framework for the Early Years Foundation Stage. We learn through seven key areas of learning which include:

3 Prime Areas:

Communication and language

Physical Development

Personal, Social and Emotional Development

4 Specific Areas

Literacy

Mathematics

Understanding the World

Expressive Arts and Design

When  planning and guiding children’s activities, we reflect upon the different ways that children learn and includthese in our provision. The 3 Characteristics of Effective Teaching and Learning are:

Playing and exploring – engagement

  • Finding out and exploring
  • Playing with what they know
  • Being willing to have a go

Active learning – motivation

  • Being involved and concentrating
  • Keeping trying
  • Enjoying achieving what they set out to do

Creating and thinking critically – thinking

  • Having their own ideas
  • Making links
  • Choosing to do things

PROVISION

Our provision activities consider the individual needs, interests, and stage of development of each child. They are reviewed and changed regularly to provide challenging and enjoyable experiences in all of the areas of learning and development. In Sunflowers, activities will focus strongly on the three prime areas, which are the basis for successful learning in the other four specific areas. They reflect the key skills the children need to develop and learn effectively, and become ready for their next stage in EYFS.
