Pre-School

Pikemere Pre-School is often the first taste of school life your child will experience, and we endeavour to create a home-from-home environment where your child feels nurtured, safe and secure. Your child is at a crucial stage in their development, with research showing that children learn more rapidly in the first seven years of life than at any other time. It is therefore important that the children in our care are given every opportunity to fulfil their potential.

Mrs Ashton is the class teacher on a Monday and Tuesday.

Mrs Beech is the class teacher on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.

This half term our topic is 'How Does Your Garden Grow?' where we will be exploring all things outdoors, from planting seeds to hunting for minibeasts. Below is our planning overview which shows different aspects of Development Matters that we will be focusing on. Although the themes and books we read are the same, the overviews are split for Rising 3s and Preschool to reflect the progression in learning that takes place.

Our School Day

In pre-school, you have the option of an early or later start. The early start is the same as the rest of the school, where children are greeted at the EYFS outdoor area gate at 8:45 and the gates close at 8:55. If your child is starting at the later time of 9:15, they need to be dropped off at the main office. Any children arriving late also need to be dropped off at the main office. The school day ends at 3:15 where children will be dismissed from the same gate. In order to keep your child safe, we may ask for a password if we do not recognise the adult coming to collect them. If someone different is going to be collecting your child, then please let us know. Your patience is very much appreciated as we get to know families.

What do I need to bring to school?

  • A waterproof coat
  • Spare underwear and clothes
  • Lunchbox (if your child is not having school meals)
  • Water bottle (named please)
  • Sunhat or hats and gloves (depending on the wonderful British weather!)
  • Nappies and wipes (if your child is not yet potty trained)

PE

PE takes place on a Wednesday morning with Mr Ollier. Please can children come into school wearing jogging bottoms, leggings or shorts and trainers.

Snacks

All pre-school children are provided with a selection of fresh fruit in the morning and a cup of milk in the afternoon. You do not need to send your child into school with a snack. However, if you do wish to send a snack to school, please make sure it is healthy and completely nut-free (this includes snacks in lunch boxes). To ensure the safety of all children, especially those with severe allergies, we are a nut-free school.
