Wellbeing

Wellbeing at Pikemere

At Pikemere we prioritise positive mental health and wellbeing for all our pupils. We want our children to know how to build life-long happiness and feel safe and secure in school in whatever activity they are taking part in. As part of our PSHE curriculum and our day-to-day practice, we develop self-regulation skills and emotional literacy for our pupils in a variety of ways. We have a dedicated team who play a vital role in supporting children and parents/carers, including signposting or accessing the support and expertise of relevant services.

Our Team

Mental Health Lead - Miss Beresford

ELSA - Miss Tyler and Mrs Forsyth

At Pikemere we promote the voice of every child.

We encourage children to talk about their experiences and listen to any issues they may have in order to support them and enable them to support themselves.

Our Mental Health team reinforce this culture by promoting regular opportunities for children to have their voices heard, whether this is through our designated PSHE lessons, our Worry Boxes and Worry Monsters, completing activities related to wishes and feelings, championing the views of children through our student ambassadorial and council roles, corridor and classroom displays and assemblies. Our continual work on behaviour, attitudes and personal development ensures that we have a comprehensive calendar of visitors, participation in relevant initiatives, community work and enrichment opportunities that support healthy minds and bodies.

Levels of Support Offered

Universal Support - All our children are nurtured and offered support as per our school ethos. We have an open-door policy so parents and carers can speak to staff as they need to and our Wellbeing Team and Senior Leadership Team support our families.

Targeted Support - For those who may have experienced a specific life situation that is affecting their emotional well-being, e.g. a bereavement. We have support systems such as ELSA, school nurse, educational psychologist, one-to-one interventions and small group interventions.

Higher Level Support - For children who are experiencing longer-term difficulties with their emotional wellbeing. School, professionals and families will meet to discuss the type of agencies that need to be contacted, and a plan will be created to support the development and wellbeing of the child.

The Five Ways To Wellbeing

Evidence suggests that a small improvement in wellbeing can help to decrease some mental health problems and also help people to flourish. This document, produced by the New Economics Foundation (NEF) on behalf of Foresight, sets out 5 actions to improve personal wellbeing:

  • connect
  • be active
  • take notice
  • keep learning
  • give

Cheshire East Family Hub

Cheshire East Family Hubs is a service that provides a wealth of support for children, parents and families.

Three key priority areas have been identified to support families across the authority: emotional health and wellbeing; Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) and deprivation.

Families at Pikemere School are able to access services within Crewe, although families can still gain access to services provided in all areas of the borough - for example, Knutsford, Macclesfield, etc... The closest hub, running activities in our locality is located at the Sandbach Children's Centre.
