At Pikemere School, we promote No Outsiders. The core message of No Outsiders is 'All different, all welcome,' which aligns with our school value of belonging. We want everyone at Pikemere to feel like they are welcome and belong as part of our school family.
The No Outsiders curriculum teaches children to respect and accept difference and diversity using the Equality Act 2010 (British Law) as a solid foundation. It supports other work we do in school to prepare children for life in modern Britain, whilst also teaching the children British Values. By embracing the work and messages of No Outsiders, we intend for our school to be a safe place for all, where no child or member of our community will feel like, or be treated as an outsider.
Why do we promote No Outsiders?
It is important we create a school culture in which children, staff and the whole school community work together to foster an environment of inclusivity and belonging. We want our children to champion inclusion, celebrate diversity and welcome everyone they meet.
At Pikemere, we also feel it is important that children are also able to share their views respectfully and politely, even if they are different to those of others. No Outsiders offers our children the chance to hear the views of others about a range of topics and to share their own thoughts. It is crucial that we, as adults facilitating No Outsiders sessions do not impress our own views on children but instead, create a safe space for children to be open and share their thoughts respectfully.
How is No Outsiders delivered at Pikemere?
No Outsiders is delivered via the two following ways:
Impact of No Outsiders
The intended outcome is that children become empowered by their own sense of identity and individuality. They will be able to listen to and understand the views and beliefs of others, building positive relationships with all despite their differences so that everyone can feel a sense of belonging at our school. As an inclusive school, our teachers are confident to tackle and explore difficult situations, using positive language to create a sense of belonging for all.
You are very welcome to call in to see your child’s class teacher to discuss this approach and to view the picture books we shall be using.
