We hope that you’ve all had a lovely summer break, and feel refreshed for your return to school on Tuesday 2nd September.

We know that some of you might feel a little bit nervous, but we’ll be there to settle you in and you’ll feel right at home quickly!

Our Year 5 teaching team includes Mrs Stannard (Monday- Thursday), Mrs Sehné (Friday), Mr Micklewright (Monday- Friday) and Miss Lightfoot (Monday- Friday mornings) . Mr Ollier and Madame Laydon are part of our team too.

Our learning for the Autumn Term 2024:

What you will need:

It would be very helpful if you could bring a pencil case with a pencil, handwriting pen, eraser, ruler and some colouring pencils. A glue stick and scissors are useful too.

We have a good selection of reading books in school, but feel free to bring your own from home.

To be prepared for our changeable weather, it would be good to bring a coat every day for rainy playtimes as well as a sun hat/cap for sunny ones. A change of footwear to keep in your locker would also be helpful to ensure you can play on the field.

Our P.E. day is Thursday, and Friday is swimming, so please wear your school P.E. kit and trainers on both these days.

Remember to bring a hairband if you have longer hair so that it can be tied up. Earrings will also need to be removed during P.E. lessons.

Remember that Friday is our swimming day, so come in your P.E. kit but don’t forget your swimming things. (Costume/ trunks, cap, towel, brush, snack for walk home ). Mrs Sehne will tell you the start date on Friday!

Homework:

A reading or grammar piece of homework will be set each Wednesday.

MyMaths will be set each Thursday. A sticker with your password details will be found in your planner.

It would be good for you to read your ‘accelerated reader book’ as often as possible at home. Ask an adult to sign your planner each time you read.

Practising your times tables will support your rapid recall in maths, so using TT Rockstars regularly is helpful. We will set you off with this during your first week back at school.

You will have a list of the Year 5 extra spellings from the Year 5/6 spelling list, which we will work through each week together. Any additional practice at home will support our work in school.
