The Governing Board

Pikemere Governing Board

The Local Governing Board at Pikemere School works very hard to ensure that everyone associated with Pikemere School is provided with every opportunity to develop and grow in a secure and safe environment. In order to ensure this happens the Governing Board members all bring different skills and expertise to the role.

The Local Governing Board at Pikemere is smaller than it has been historically as a result of the school becoming a founding member of Chancery Multi Academy Trust. The Board meets in full once every half term and separate Personnel Committee meetings are convened as and when required.

Our Governors

Chair –  Mrs Kerry Hulson (Co-opted)

Responsibilities: Safeguarding,  Special Educational Needs & Disabilities (SEND), Health & Safety

Governor since April 2018

Having graduated with a degree in electrical and electronic engineering I joined Staffordshire Police, where I remained until I retired in September 2020. Having completed over 30 years’ service I had a number of roles, including working in murder incident rooms, the Economic Crime Unit and latterly within the Anti-Corruption Unit.
When my daughter started to attend Pikemere’s pre-school I joined the parent forum in an effort to help support and better understand school life. This subsequently led to me becoming a parent governor and being voted in as the Chair of Governors.
I enjoy walking, jogging, skiing, tennis and I also volunteer with Brownies, local church youth groups and I am a trustee for the Alsager Educational Foundation.

Headteacher – Mr A Hughes

The Headteacher at Pikemere School is a Governor unless they elect not to stand.

Co-opted Governor – Mrs Karen Fuller

Responsibilities: Curriculum

I have worked in education for the last 30 years having many roles from Assistant Headteacher, Director of Teaching School, gaining accreditation as our own Initial Teacher Training provider in Cheshire East.  I recently moved to Manchester Metropolitan University as Head of ITE Primary and Secondary Partnerships.

I have always had a strong connection with Pikemere school.  As a parent I chose Pikemere School for my own children as its values and those deeply resonate with me.  Whilst my own children were at Pikemere I joined the Parent Forum and was subsequently elected as a Parent Governor, and have maintained my connection ever since.  I feel very priviledged to work with such committed staff and to see that Pikemere places children’s needs at the very heart of everything they do.

Co-opted Governor – Mrs Helen Morris

Responsibilities: Pupil Premium (PP), Early Years

Governor since September 2019

I have worked in education for the last 30 years, seven of them as Principal of Cranberry Academy in Alsager. I have worked collaboratively with all the schools in Alsager through the Alsager Community Trust and through this feel I have a good understanding of Pikemere School. I now work as an Educational Coach and Consultant, mainly supporting Headteachers and Senior Leaders.
I am looking forward to getting to know the children, staff and parents at Pikemere School.

Co-opted Governor – Mr Geoff Chatterley

I qualified as a Chartered Quantity Surveyor in 1980 initially joining Birmingham based consultancy working throughout the UK on a wide variety of construction projects, ultimately becoming a Partner within the business. Our practice merged with a multi-national Engineering Consultancy where I acted as Regional Director for the Northwest for 5 years sitting on their national forum specialising in the Hotel and Leisure sector. I established my own practice in 2002 working throughout the UK offering construction contract/cost management and project management to both Private and Publicly funded projects within the UK Construction Industry in sectors including Health, Education, Hotel & Leisure, Industrial, Engineering, Housing & Residential Care etc

Since retiring from paid employment in 2020 I have volunteered locally in Alsager with the Covid Vaccination Programme, Alsager Foodbank, Driving for lunch club as well as being involved with Christ Church Alsager as current member of the PCC and former Church Warden, running their walking group, assist with Youth Work, buildings management and finance. In any spare time, I enjoy walking, gardening, sport and generally keeping fit.

Both of our children attended Pikemere School back in the 1990’s during which time I was on the PTA

I remain a Fellow of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors

Co-opted Governor – Mrs K Stancliffe

I have always had an allegiance to Pikemere School. My 3 children attended, and all have fond memories of their time there. I also had many happy years working at Pikemere as a teaching assistant and later as a HLTA, for 8 years until 2007 when I moved to Alsager School.

I retired in 2020 having spent 13 years working in Pastoral Support working with teenagers. It was a job where you always expected the unexpected and was a job that I loved.

I am currently secretary for Alsager Tangent and in retirement I now enjoy travelling, cycling and gardening.  In 2019 I cycled across Costa Rica with 120 other like-minded women raising money for “Women V Cancer”. It was an experience I will never forget.

I am looking forward to being a governor at Pikemere and hope my experiences and passion are of benefit to the governing body.

Parent Governor – Mrs Sarah Whitmore

I work as a General Practitioner (GP) in a Cheshire practice as well as working as a forensic examiner in the Sexual Assault Referral Centre (SARC). Through these roles I care for people in all walks of life but am especially interested in child heath which prompted me to complete a further postgraduate qualification in child heath.

I am currently joint treasurer of the PTA and  have two children in the school with another two set to join in the future. I hope to be able to support the school to ensure it continues to provide a happy and enriching experience for the students.

Vice Chair – Parent Governor – Mrs Nicola Ratcliffe

Responsibilities: Early Years,; Behaviour, Attitudes & Wellbeing; Wider curriculum

I am a Deputy Director of HR with 12 years experience of working in Higher Education at Keele University. I have responsibility for HR strategy, policy and project development and delivery, with particular expertise in equality, diversity and inclusion. I also have senior management responsibility for Keele Day Nursery.

My two children attend Pikemere and I am pleased to be able to input to the future development and improvement of our school.

Staff Governor – Mrs Vicky Beddow

During my teaching career I have worked both classroom based and peripatetically within the areas of Social Emotional and Mental Health needs and SEND. In 1999 I was involved in the setting up of The Primary Behaviour Support Team in Stoke-on-Trent and as part of a research MEd looked at effective ways of reducing exclusions in the authority. I have always had a passion to ensure that barriers to learning are overcome for pupils with SEND so that they can achieve their full potential, promoting positive relationships within the classroom and having high expectations are paramount for me.

Having taken a 10 year career break after having twins I have recently enjoyed being back in the classroom in the role of a Teaching Assistant.

Parent Governor – Mrs C Morris

I return to the governing body as a co-opted governor after a 4 year spell as parent governor, having 2 children at Pikemere school since 2016.
I have direct links with education through my profession as a primary school teacher within Cheshire East. My experience spans over 20 years and has included work in both Key Stages 1&2 in the state school sector, Early Years in the independent sector and advisory work for CE Early Years and Childcare Team.

I am delighted to be a part of the current governing body at Pikemere primary school and hope that my experiences in education and dedication to the success of this school will be of benefit during my time as governor.

Pikemere School Alsager
My child has always enjoyed Pikemere School and she wants to stay forever so that shows how well the school does in making the children feel happy and safe. I feel she couldn’t have gone to a better school.
