The Governing Board

Pikemere Governing Board

The Local Governing Board at Pikemere School works very hard to ensure that everyone associated with Pikemere School is provided with every opportunity to develop and grow in a secure and safe environment. In order to ensure this happens the Governing Board members all bring different skills and expertise to the role.

The Local Governing Board at Pikemere is smaller than it has been historically as a result of the school becoming a founding member of Chancery Multi Academy Trust. The Board meets in full once every half term and separate Personnel Committee meetings are convened as and when required.

Our Governors

Chair –  Mrs Kerry Hulson (Co-opted)

Responsibilities: Safeguarding,  Special Educational Needs & Disabilities (SEND), Health & Safety

Governor since April 2018

Having graduated with a degree in electrical and electronic engineering I joined Staffordshire Police, where I remained until I retired in September 2020. Having completed over 30 years’ service I had a number of roles, including working in murder incident rooms, the Economic Crime Unit and latterly within the Anti-Corruption Unit.
When my daughter started to attend Pikemere’s pre-school I joined the parent forum in an effort to help support and better understand school life. This subsequently led to me becoming a parent governor and being voted in as the Chair of Governors.
I enjoy walking, jogging, skiing, tennis and I also volunteer with Brownies, local church youth groups and I am a trustee for the Alsager Educational Foundation.

CEO of Chancery Multi Academy Trust and Interim Headteacher – Mrs SL Gohr

The Headteacher at Pikemere School is a Governor unless they elect not to stand.

Mrs C Richards

Co-opted Governor – Mrs Chris Richards

Responsibilities: English, Maths & Reading; Health & Safety

Governor since late 1980’s. Former Chair and Vice Chair.

I have been involved in and with education in Alsager for over forty years.

My children attended Pikemere School from the mid-seventies, during which time I was elected as chair of the Parents’ Association and subsequently as Parent Governor, serving over the years as Chair and Vice Chair. I taught at Alsager School for over thirty years and became a mentor and monitor of Bachelor of Education students as part of Keele University’s Associate Scheme.

Pikemere School has taken on board and met with the many changes and challenges of education initiatives over the decades and is a very successful school, with a highly committed staff and head teacher. It is an establishment which puts the needs of all children first and I have been proud and delighted to have been part of it.

Co-opted Governor – Mrs Helen Morris

Responsibilities: Pupil Premium (PP), Early Years

Governor since September 2019

I have worked in education for the last 30 years, seven of them as Principal of Cranberry Academy in Alsager. I have worked collaboratively with all the schools in Alsager through the Alsager Community Trust and through this feel I have a good understanding of Pikemere School. I now work as an Educational Coach and Consultant, mainly supporting Headteachers and Senior Leaders.
I am looking forward to getting to know the children, staff and parents at Pikemere School.

Co-opted Governor – Mr Craig Hall

I have been working for Fujitsu a Global ICT company for 16 years in various different roles from Operational Management through to Service Delivery. I have looked after various teams from Logistics through to Engineering.

I am currently Head of Corporate Charity Partnerships managing all volunteering, fundraising, and IT projects across the UK. I have led various employability workshops with Prince’s Trust and DWP across England, Scotland, and Wales helping to support individuals to help secure full-time employment.
In the last 6 years, all of the partnerships I have managed have been recognised at a national awards level, including most recently Corporate Partnership of the Year.

I have a huge passion for supporting local communities and encouraging children to get into STEM subjects from an early age.

Co-opted Governor – Mrs K Stancliffe

I have always had an allegiance to Pikemere School. My 3 children attended, and all have fond memories of their time there. I also had many happy years working at Pikemere as a teaching assistant and later as a HLTA, for 8 years until 2007 when I moved to Alsager School.

I retired in 2020 having spent 13 years working in Pastoral Support working with teenagers. It was a job where you always expected the unexpected and was a job that I loved.

I am currently secretary for Alsager Tangent and in retirement I now enjoy travelling, cycling and gardening.  In 2019 I cycled across Costa Rica with 120 other like-minded women raising money for “Women V Cancer”. It was an experience I will never forget.

I am looking forward to being a governor at Pikemere and hope my experiences and passion are of benefit to the governing body.

Parent Governor – Mrs Sam Micklewright

Responsibilities: Special Educational Needs & Disabilities (SEND), Pupil Premium (PP)

Having a child with SEN brings additional daily challenges but also provides an alternative viewpoint on the world around us and a greater understanding. As a family we choose to embrace these differences and Pikemere continues to support us without judgement. We are continually learning and developing new skills to support our son and advocate for other families facing the same.

Being a Children’s Nurse for the past 14 years has provided me with a wealth of experience and knowledge of child development, safeguarding, health and emotional wellbeing. I have spent 12 years working in the community caring for children in S-o-T and North Staffordshire with acute illness and complex needs, more recently working as an ASC (Autism Spectrum Condition) nurse practitioner supporting families in South Staffordshire.
I am passionate about making a difference and committed to developing strategies and new ways of working to ensure accessibility and equality in all aspects of school life. Building on the strengths of the whole school community to benefit our children’s education and learning environment with the reward of seeing our children flourish to become well rounded individuals.

Vice Chair – Parent Governor – Mrs Nicola Ratcliffe

Responsibilities: Early Years,; Behaviour, Attitudes & Wellbeing; Wider curriculum

I am a Deputy Director of HR with 12 years experience of working in Higher Education at Keele University. I have responsibility for HR strategy, policy and project development and delivery, with particular expertise in equality, diversity and inclusion. I also have senior management responsibility for Keele Day Nursery.

My two children attend Pikemere and I am pleased to be able to input to the future development and improvement of our school.

Staff Governor – Mrs Vicky Beddow

During my teaching career I have worked both classroom based and peripatetically within the areas of Social Emotional and Mental Health needs and SEND. In 1999 I was involved in the setting up of The Primary Behaviour Support Team in Stoke-on-Trent and as part of a research MEd looked at effective ways of reducing exclusions in the authority. I have always had a passion to ensure that barriers to learning are overcome for pupils with SEND so that they can achieve their full potential, promoting positive relationships within the classroom and having high expectations are paramount for me.

Having taken a 10 year career break after having twins I have recently enjoyed being back in the classroom in the role of a Teaching Assistant.

Co-opted Governor – Mrs Karen Fuller

Responsibilities: Curriculum

I have worked in education for the last 30 years having many roles from Assistant Headteacher, Director of Teaching School, gaining accreditation as our own Initial Teacher Training provider in Cheshire East.  I recently moved to Manchester Metropolitan University as Head of ITE Primary and Secondary Partnerships.

I have always had a strong connection with Pikemere school.  As a parent I chose Pikemere School for my own children as its values and those deeply resonate with me.  Whilst my own children were at Pikemere I joined the Parent Forum and was subsequently elected as a Parent Governor, and have maintained my connection ever since.  I feel very priviledged to work with such committed staff and to see that Pikemere places children’s needs at the very heart of everything they do.
