We hope that you’ve all had a lovely summer break with your families, and that you’re looking forward to starting Year 6. We managed to find out some interesting information about each other during the transition mornings, so we’re looking forward to hearing about your bike rides and horse riding, baking and reading, crafting and Lego building to name a few!
Things to remember…
You will need to wear your full school uniform everyday apart from Tuesday and Thursday. On these two days, you can wear your P.E. kit for the whole day as this is when you will do your P.E. lessons. As the weather can be changeable, you will need to wear your navy Pikemere P.E. polo shirt, navy jogging bottoms, Pikemere P.E. hoodie and suitable trainers. Remember to also tie your hair up if it is long.
Please also bring a warm coat ready for the winter months.
Food and drink
- Morning snack
- Packed lunch if you are not having a school dinner
- Named bottle containing water
You will be provided with a handwriting pen, a pencil and a whiteboard pen on your first day. You may wish to bring your own rubber, sharpener, ruler, colouring pencils and glue stick. These items will need to be kept in a small pencil case and left in school. You will have access to a locker, so you can store your belongings in there.
There is a wide range of reading books in class for you to borrow, but you may to bring your own from home if you prefer.
Our curriculum for the Autumn Term
As a whole school, we are excited to share a lovely book by Oliver Jeffers called ‘Here we are’.
Using the title of the book, can you guess what we might learn from it?
If you click on the link below, you will see an overview of all of our learning for the Autumn Term.
During your first week back in school, you will receive a copy of the Year 5 and 6 spelling list to stick in your planner. There is also a copy to download on the link below. We will work through these spellings each week along with our work on different spelling patterns.
When we met for our transition sessions, many of you talked about books that you enjoy reading. I remember several Harry Potter fans 🙂 You may also like the look of some of these books:
As you will see on the curriculum overview, we will be looking at several maths topics over the term. You will find it very helpful to know all of your times tables up to 12 x 12, so if you’re unsure of any, it would benefit you to practise regularly.
There are various helpful websites for maths including:
- Hit the Button (TopMarks website)
- My Maths (we use this for homework tasks but it is good for practise too)
- Times Tables Rockstars
A final message
Remember to ask if you are unsure of anything at all. We are here to help you 🙂
We look forward to welcoming you back to the classroom.
